I recently completed all required classes, had my home inspection, passed all background checks, did our cpr first aid, and now we are just waiting for our paperwork to be submitted and approved. My question is if you have bad credit does that keep you from getting approved?

Thanks :)

I have, in one instance, been asked what my savings, RRSP's/investments vs debt load was...even what the account numbers were. I only confirmed that I had savings and that my monthly dept load consisted of the usual...rent/mortgage payments, vehicle, utilities, etc. I thought this was an unusal line of questioning and made comments on the agency forms that sharing much of that information is a privacy matter...one that they need to tread lightly on. We all know how these agencies work ;) so I assumed my file wouldn't be processed any further. However, a seasoned supervisor "appreciated the input around boundaries" and the process was smooth...except for the question around "my first sexual experience"...I had a field day with that one.

They do check income in NJ. They ask for our tax returns too. I know someone who was turned down because she did not have enough income.

My husband and I have been debating foster care for several years now. We are about to do some home renovations and are going to our first meeting at the end of January. The Texas site says you have to be financially responsible. My husband has been working at his job for over 28 years, we own our own home and two cars, but there are times that we have to stretch his paycheck! What do they mean exactly by financially responsible and what proof will be required of us, example;: Tax statements, bank records, etc. We have so much to offer that I am hoping this will not exclude us.
Thank you for your help,
Julie

In Virginia prospective families must show income over expenses and verify their income by submitting their most recent pay stub (or last Income Tax form if self employed). This is how Virginia weeds out people coming for the monthly foster child reimbursement check. There is no "minimum" income, just income over expenses and self supporting. There is no credit check.
