Hi,

I am currently taking the training to become a Foster Parent.

I am interested in older children who are aging out of the system - basically, I would like to work help young people suceed in college or in their first job.

Is anyone else here doing this?

I took in a senior in highschool and just saw him graduate and go off to college! My next prospect child is a 16 yr old with a newborn. This will be longer term, I hope. We have a heart for this age group as well, plus our bio kids are 19 and 16, so it all fits in. Let me know any specific questions or just keep in touch with me on your experiences and ideas. I am pretty new to all of this myself and would welcome a friend to bounce ideas around with.

It's been awhile since I posted that. My first foster children were a mother and baby. She is now married to the baby's father.

My second is a 12 year old. She's younger than I wanted, but had been taking care of 4 younger children in an apartment without electricity or water. So, I thought she deserved a chance to be a little girl.

Sounds like you are her "Angel".... Best of luck! 12 years old is such an IMPORTANT stage in a young persons life.... You can shape her to have a wonderful future!! :)

Thats awesome. Teens are tough. Only take 1.
I initially wanted 2 school aged kids & right now have 2 babies 2 & 1 who are next to impossible. My advice is be very specific about what you want and what you will put up with your Agency & do not settle. I was not clear enough with my capabilities & now I am having a to have these little ones removed from my home because I cannot handle to babiesthis young
