Hi all--I wonder if anyone wants to share experiences with kids who "age out" of the system? Did you care for kids while they aged out? What did you do? Did they get services after age 18?
We have worked with a few, two of whom work with Chafee, and one who nearly aged out. (He was returned home at age 17 to a family with little resources, so he's pretty much on his own.) Chafee programs certainly help a lot! The girls who get help from Chafee are thriving! There can be such a crisis for kids with few skills and little support--moral or financial. The statistics show that many kids end up in trouble and homeless when services just end at 18.
