Hi everyone..need some advice..not exactly about foster care..but related..my best friend and her husband are both white, and were fortunate enough to adopt a baby. They were foster parents for years until they were lucky enough to adopt the baby. The baby is Korean, and they are thrilled to have been blessed with a child. The only issue is, they tell me about some of the nasty things they hear from people..any advice or words of engouragement?

Familes with adopted children can learn a lot from each other. I know a few blended families and they make sure that their adopted children have friends who are from the same country, take language lessons, make trips to their birth country etc.
Surely their agency can put them in contact with experienced families?

Agreed... ask the adoption agency about programs avaialable. I know where I am they have groups and the child should be able to meet other adopted children born from the same area and parents can share stories and advice with eachother!
Congrats to her on the adoption! That is so wonderful! :)

I didn't really think about that...I'm sure there are plenty of other families going through the same thing..And it's definetely wonderful to hear stories to relate to. Especially in today's world..mixed races should not be something to be surprised at!!! I just don't know what to say when we're out and someone makes a comment..or how to stick up for her when a family member says something to her. I'm her best friend and I just feel speechless when things like this happen..How does that happen in 2009?!?!

I am so sorry that people act that way. It must be very difficult for your friend. It's silly because a child is a child, why does it matter if you're his birth mother. This reminds of a movie that I've seen commercials for about mixed race marriage. Does anyone know which one I'm talking about?

This reminds me of this movie..There's been commercials for it playing everywhere. It kind of reminds me of my situation with my family..mixed races and all that drama..Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcH3JoZPEN4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcH3JoZPEN4)
