View Full Version : At what age is Santa not real?

What is a typical age for kids to not believe? Do you think there is a limbo time between when they don't believe. And they tell us they don't believe?
I found a site which sells Santa letters and Santa calls which I want to send to my kids and keep them believing in Santa, since that's one of the only reason they behave during Christmas.
Here is the site: www.ezsantaletters.com (http://www.ezsantaletters.com/)

I think that most kids find out when they are 10 or 11 - seems to be the age when the word gets out in school!

In our home, Santa has always been real. We are a devout Christian (Catholic) home and we told our biological child and our foster kids the REAL story of Saint Nick. You can find stories of him that cater towards your particular religion, or you may find some secular stories. Of course, we preferred the religious stories. This was appropriate because everywhere you go, there is a "fake" santa (mall, ringing the bell for the salvation army). When the kids are taught who is the "real" santa, they wont question why there are so many fake ones! We also like to celebrate St. Nick's saint day (kids put out shoes, etc.) This is a great family tradition before Christmas. It also gives a special meaning to the celebration of Christmas. Not only do we acknowledge the birth of our Savior, Jesus, but we acknowledge that we are given talents by God and we need to share them with others (just like Saint Nick did because he loved Jesus, became a bishop, and shared his wealth with the less fortunate.)

Thank you. I knew that St. Nicholaus was a real person, but not much else about him. You made me want me want to look him up and learn something. I am not Catholic, but I do respect many of your beliefs. I will try to pass that story on to my kids.

The story of St. Nick is a facinating story - even if you are not religious. You might try just googling his name and you can find many sites that discuss him. In many cultures in Europe for example, they celebrate the feast of St. Nicholas in addition to Christmas. There are many places in the US that do that as well.

We've also passed along the tradition that we can be like St. Nick (and in essence, Jesus, since St. Nick acted the way he did because was Christian) and strive to help out others. For example, at Christmas, the adults do not get each other gifts, instead opting to sponsor a needy family at Christmas and donating to local charities. We also donate food to a local shelter on a monthly basis. There are MANY ways you can incorporate the spirit of St. Nick on a year round basis. Plus, I think that it softens the blow when they find out you were the ones putting the gifts under the tree all those years! :)

Have a Merry Christmas!!

I went to that site, www.ezsantaletters.com (http://www.ezsantaletters.com) and was really impressed with the variety of letters they offer. Most places just have a standard package that you can order. Thank you, Andrea for the information.
