To all
Each time any one of you reaches out to touch the life of a child or adolescent whether that be in your capacity as a Social worker, a Supervisor a Manager,or a Foster Family doing respite, long or short term care or a family Adopting, you make a statement. You say I care about the lives of Children and their family . You are saying I am willing and able to extend a piece of myself to help heal the wounds of others. To our Human Service Staff you are the guide that lights the way for a chance at an improved life for our Foster and Adoptive Children.

I don't know. I wish I believed this. I think most people in the system have good intentions, but I think the kids get the short end of the stick almost all the time. "Reunification" is held up as the ultimate goal and kids are returned to homes where their sex offender parent lives, etc. Social workers are often overburdened and can't/don't return calls. Kids don't get the help they need right away and some foster homes are forced to send the kid off to another home and kids get bounced around. I understand the sentiment of the post, but I just think that the system is seriously flawed. How can we band together to make things different?
