It's the silly season - the president predicts peace in the Middle East in 2008, Barack is all fired up, Huckabee is Huckabee, etc., etc. and the financial markets are using the "R" word for what us old-timers used to call "a banana"

My name is Mark which rhymes with MARC which stands for Minimum Adequate Rates for Children in Foster Care (as determined in an October, 2007 report based upon the work of the National Association of Public Child Welfare Administrators.) If you google (I don't need to know), try www.childrensrights.org (http://www.childrensrights.org) for the NAPCWA report or the University of Maryland School of Social Work.

My other name is Moshe which reflects my parents' hope that their second son would, like Moses, show courage, leadership, and a bunch of other qualities. I'm 57 and not even close yet. But, I'm still trying (my beautiful wife, Sylvia, testifies that I am "very trying".)

Not being much of a mountain climber, I thought it might make sense to ask you for help. I find lists very helpful. Could those of you who believe in equal justice help me to prioritize a "top ten"? Lettermen need not apply.

Come on! Pitch in. We are the frontline. What do our children most need? What family supports are most important? What will it cost society if we fail?

For the Hottentots, anything more than three was "many." I believe in progress. I think we can master "digital" - let's go for ten!

Help me climb the mountain. What are ten top "best practices" for children who have been wounded by adverse childhood experiences and whose recovery now depends upon the insight, regard, intelligence, and expertise of foster families?

My parents are counting on me. I'm counting on you. And, most importantly, Kids Count!

Please, post your thoughts here.

I can't figure out what "R" word you are talking about, but your comments are quite witty and entertaining.

Love them as if you are paying for their college. Let them know that people shouldn't mistreat each other and show them how it is done EVERYDAY!
